Problems with autbox 2.5td
« on: 13 August 2009, 22:46:49 »

Hi all, A elderly neighbor has the above and has been quoted £1500-£1700 with only a 3 month guarantee! I smell a rat and had read some of the info you guys have offered to folk. I am going to try and change the filter on the box and refill with dextron3.
two question I need answers to 1. where about is the filter on the box and can i drain it first?
2. where do you fill the box back up at? I know they are a bit trivial questions but have never owned a GM car so dont know where to look. hopefully it will work and he wont have to pay something he cant actually afford. :-?

low gear oil level causes problems with the autobox, symptoms that would have you believe it was knackered.
fresh oil and filter will do it good too.
not sure where filter is but i'm sure others will give more advice.the filler is also the drain plug which is on the drivers side of box, either hex or allen head plug.
these should help with checking level and changing gear oil etc.

Thanks for the info chaps. The vehicle has never exhibited any previous problems but just started slipping when its gets warm, i.e. going up hill isnt advisable. no visible signs of leaks anywhere but also looks as though it's never had a service in it's life.

whats the millage? 2.5TDs are known for killing autoboxes, due to the high torque.

Its best to replace with AR35

Hi all,

Thanks to all of the brilliant advise from this site the problem was solved by putting on a new Transmission oil filter, the result was instant!

The Old fella who owns the car (NICE MOTOR) now has himself a new car and wishes to sell his Omega. any interested parties please call 01573-440715.
The car has only done 5000 miles or so since its last full service and i believe this also included a timing either belt or chain which ever it is.

Regards

I thought these needed servicing every 3000 miles or something riduculous like that?
