rear passenger footwell
« on: 15 December 2009, 10:24:21 »

Is soaking again! Front passenger carpet is bone dry, scuttle drain is also totally clear. Rear door seal looks fine I cannot see any trace of water coming in from that. I really have no idea where this water is coming in from. ::)

not for a while  ;D

Its a very damp smell, not very doggy! Its i worst in the bottom right corner of the footwell, towards the front under the front seat its still dry.

I can only think someone years ago before i had it spilt a huge amount of water or something down there which soaked into the insulating foam.

The carpet around the sill appears dry  :-/

Is perhaps getting in from underneath with all the wet weather? maybe through a drain hole, or a grommet gone missing?....just a thought, had this in the past.

There is certainly a grommet under the back footwell might be that This probably wont help but I recently cleaned out my scuttle air intack well behind the pollen filter with a hose and got water in the fan housing which found its way to the back footwell not much in the front footwell but a lot in the back To get rid of the smell I tried various sprays after drying out with a hair dryer  but had to replace the underfelt to obtain success.

dose yours have them plastic clip in the carpet holds down the carpet, and the plastic pin can fall out and leave a hole to the out side.

How did you do that, spray with the hose behind the pollen filter?

I have not cleaned the scuttle for ages, although i inspect it quite often so know its clear.  Infact i don't think i cleaned it since i last Vaxed it and got all the water out.

I'll check for this grommit tonight, if is is leaking, will there be any problems sealing it with some goo of some kind? Does this gromit need to 'breath'?

Really?  :o - All that stands between the outside 100mph 70 mph motorway crap going underneath the car is stopped by that? I would have thought that would be attached to the sound proof stuff, not into the metal work?  :-/

It does have the clips in the floor, but the mats i have in the back (geniune GM) don't have the holes so never used them.

Really need to get unneath to investigate, which i might do at lunch time today  :y

are the ac drains clear? Do you see 2 drips/ puddles under the car with ac on? Just wonder if its baking up.
Have you checked the door membrane is still sealed?

I have seen puddles under the car, usually after an oil change as i leave the car running in the garage for a bit. But i will double check again.

Door seals look fine, there is dirt in the seals which has not moved, and does not point to any water ingress. Around the plastic sills too there is no apparent water intake, the carpet towards the door is dry, its just the bottom corner on the right (closest to the drive shaft tunnel)
