Heating - again!
« on: 20 December 2009, 16:32:01 »

My heater is really confusing me now! I've taken the vacuum pipe off the HBV valve and at first it made no difference, still freezing cold, then when I turned the engine off next I got a coolant level warning. I put a little in even though it was fine.....now I have luke warm air but if I increase the fan speed it seems to cool the air down.

Also the direction control makes no difference - its windscreen only and the heater matrix pipes seem to be cold, top and bottom (if I've checked the right ones!). The only other thing is I've tried running with the expansion cap off to bleed an air lock.

Sorry to be so long, but lots of information to get in!

Did you plug the hose that came off the HBV?
If not, that might explain your loss of control over which vents are selected.

Feel the alloy pipes in the driver's footwell when the engine is fully up to temperature, that should give you the best indication of whether the coolant flow into the matrix is cool/warm/hot.

in engine bay heater pipes there should be one with a bend at top that should be hot and anothere just under it that pipe gose to the retern  it should be hot, if just warm will need to take the two pies off and using hose pipe atach hose to return pipe and flush out. allso clean you water tank. put back on after it is clean'd fill up again, leave top off tank run engine and pump the pipes with hands on heater pipes and engine near rad, when temp gets to 80 85 turn off the engine let cool down then top up and put cap back on. should be done. :y
