« on: 22 December 2009, 08:16:41 »

Hello
Can anyone shed any light as to why the climate control on our elite `98 , runs then makes a crackling sound , shuts off completely and restarts itself ?  many thanks  Andy

When sat in the driving seat sounds more passanger kick panel or behind the glove box , tonight i also noticed that the c.c panel lights flickered everso slightly along with the heat rear screen switch light, The heated drivers seat was also on but seemed unaffected. Tonight it stayed on and lunchtime it went off 3 times in 2 miles :-?

crackling noises and flickering lights = bad electrical contact = potential sparks = potential fire ???

Thats worst case admittedly ... more likley the constant powering on/off at rapid intervals will simply burn out the electronics in the control unit.

I'd be checking plugs/wiring earlier rather than later  ... :(
