Hi there, have a small niggle with my 2001 2.2 petrol omega which i hope someone can help with. The heaters inside the car only seem to be warm, even when set on HI, and the rear vents only blow out cold. There are a few other small things which i dont know are a cause, but i'll list them in case it jogs somebodys memory.
Small loss of coolant, you can just see a bit of dried water around the filler cap but not really that much.
Had the heater bypass valve changed around 18 months ago, would it stick or block internally, or need replacing again already?
Car seems to be running at a slightly higher temp sometimes than usual. It used to hover around 90 but sometimes now it will creep up to 95, fan does kick in and reduce it back to normal. Head gasket been tested and everything is fine there.
Recently drained all water and added new antifreeze etc, but had problem before this too,
I hope someone can help as its FREEZING!!!

traped air in the heater matrix sqeeze the top and bottom pie with the engine running hot not full temp with the cap off, keep doing it until the water just gose up and down with no bubbles. if that not work try doing the same to the inlet and out let pipe for the heater matrix, leave to cool down then top up.

before touching those pipes, i would take the vac pipe off the HBV, then start and run up to temp...... see if you get warm air then

take heater pipes off and flush out both ways. that worked for me.

A 2.2 should run at about 85 degrees. Sounds like you're cooling system needs a good flush out to me.

Thanks for the replies guys.I did remove the filler cap and squeeze the pipes with the engine running. I've checked both pipes going through to the heater matrix and they are both hot. I've removed the vac pipe off the hcv and it made no difference at all. I did notice that nothing seemed to be happening with this pipe ie it wasn't sucking or blowing. The temp of the air does change when you adjust from hi to low on the control panel, but on high it is barely warm. Any more ideas please???

Vac solenoid is behind glovebox screwed to the heater box above the  lower air vent. There are 2 (cylindrical shape). The one with the black pipe connected operates the HBV, the one with the black/blue pipe operates the recirculation flap.

Have you tried resynchronising the climate control servos?

(press and hold 'off' and 'auto' for 5 seconds IIRC)

It sounds to me as though the heater flaps are only moving halfway.

When heat is not required the climate system applies a vacuum to this pipe to cause the HBV (heater bypass valve) to do its thing and stop sending heat into the cabin.

I've tried resetting the servos. I read you had to hold auto and off for 30 seconds with the engine running. Nothing happened!

Many thanks to everybody who replied on here. I flushed through the heater matrix again today and now the heaters blow so hot you can't have them on hi for too long! Many thanks again and happy new year to everybody.

ive got a 2,0 16v gls ive flushed it changed the rad and stat only managed to discon one side as cant get off clip on flow to matrix but haynes manual doesnt help assume original clip many already replaced with jubillees where is heater by pass or is this only on posh motors with air con with engine running i disc return from matrix and water squirted out but still tepid will blow hot for a few seconds if im in stationary traffic cheers brian brrrrrrrrrrrrr

your hbv is below the matrix hoses at the back of the engine drivers side ?have a look and see if the vac pipe as come off your heater bypass valve ?i have had the same problem !i have flushed the system about half a dozen times or so to clean it out and i have flushed the matrix both ways a few times and it has sorted the problem out .hope this helps and good luck ? pete
