Temp gauge not moving
« on: 01 January 2010, 09:09:23 »

Happy New year to all Omega owners, can anybody point me in the right direction please, the temperature gauge on my 02 2.6 Elite hardly moves, it barely comes off the bottom line, it's only just started acting up, the heaters seam ok so I'm thinking the thermostat is ok, does anybody know where the temp sender is ? is it the 'bigish' plug type switch on the top right-hand side of the radiator  ? any help appreciated.
Cheers
Dave

Sender is on the coolant bridge in the valley of engine.  Its the spade connector one (the one beside it is the ecu one).

But it will most likely be your stat - to prove, take it for a run, then let it idle (with ECO ON) for a while when you get back. Does it creep up to just above midpoint on gauge, before fans kick in?

Cheers guys, you've convinced me to book the bugar in to the dealers, it'll cost I know but it sounds awkward and time consuming.

You could ask Loo-Knee (aka Daz)!  ;) A lot less expensive than a dealer & more knowledgeable  :y  :y  :y

I've sorted the problem, I wanted to make sure it was the stat before going any further so whilst checking the top and bottom hoses for heat / flow etc I noticed the two front fans were turning, as I'd only just started the engine I thought this a bit strange, so after checking the wiring and plugs for 20 minutes for any signs of obvious faults and drawing a blank I sat in the car, 'pi**ed off and a fine set of brass boll**ks to boot', then I noticed the heater was on ! I turned the heater off so as to heat the engine up a bit quicker and the two fans went off, I switched the heater on again and the two fans came back on ! I then turned the heater to ECO and the fans went off again, I left the engine running, heater in ECO mode, and the temp gauge started to rise, I left it for a while and all the fans kicked in, this told me the thermostat must be working correctly, took the car for a run and now everything is working as it should be (obviously I hear you saying). So do I take it that below a certain outside temperature I should switch to ECO mode !!! This is all probably obvious to you but it never crossed my mind, I'm just glad it's sorted so long as I'm right about the ECO mode !

Thanks for your help guys, also managed to clean the pollen filter whilst I was messing around thanks to looking around the forum and threads.

Would appreciate confirmation on the ECO bit if anyone can help  :)

No, I still maintain your stat is shagged. In fact, I think you have just proved it.

It would heat up if car not moving. The fans coming on (normal for aircon) is chilling rad. If stat working, water wouldn't be passing through rad if not up to temp
