still no joy on alarm problem
« on: 01 January 2010, 16:54:23 »

Further to an earlier post, my alarm is still going off,
What I have tried so far;
removed power sounder, pressed button inside car with man walking away, removed bonnet switch.
It still is going off every 4 hours or so, It's driving me mad, only way to stop it is leaving locks undone, can't do that where I live.

Manual is at work, spent half an hour on here trying to get some help but search is not coming up.

Anyone know if there is a simple fuse I can disconnect to stop alarm before the neighbours start knocking on the door

cheers Pete

As you've removed bonnet switch try shorting out the two terminals the switch connects to - this worked for me on a Rover with a faulty bonnet switch.

Not a fix mate but, when you get out the car, open the rear door and reach through an push the drivers button down. ENSURE you have your keys and shut the back door, car is locked without the alarm being activated.........
At least its locked and the alarm should not go off

Hi yes the horn and the hazards still going. Have locked it as you suggested, I assume this definately does not arm the alarm? as when you lock it with the key it does.
Thanks for the help, 2 hours of peace so far and the wife is looking happier!

Yes mate the alarm is armed by the key.....i had the same problem with my power sounder for a couple of days,i used the back door locking method and it kept it quiet
You need to get the bonnet switch fixed,i would say that it has an open circut making the alarm think the bonnet has been tampered/opened........

Why did you disconnect it?

Sounds stupid mate, but its been known before for a spider to be crawling around inside the car in front of the sensors, even though you said you have switched them off,are you sure they were off properly?otherwise is there damp in the system, you will be surprised what damp can do. :y

removed switch as I was systematically checking each component, the booting around the spring has cracked but multimeter says it's fine, I guess damp could be the problem then, as this only started on nights below zero, although it does go off round the clock, it's favorite time is 1-3am!

Well,WD40 all parts

Test for the bonnet switch would be,open bonnet.....hold pin switch down with finger....set the alarm (30 secs) let the switch go!
If alarm goes off its working,an may just be bent slightly

You should get a quiet night by locking it the way you have....

I wouldn't use wd40 on electrical contacts as it will short contacts out. use a contact cleaner like servisol super 10 from places like maplins about £4.29 for a spray can. This will clean & lubricate contacts. :y

Hi I did all that a few days ago, even methodically checked the allignment of the plunger with bonnet.

Never had WD40 short out circuits in the 20 years I have been using it!

I have, but you can get away with it. I think the contact cleaner is the best way to go.
I'm sure people will put me right on here though ::)
