Hello can anyone please tell me where the temp gauge sender is and best way to replace it

Its right at the back of the engine, below and between the DIS (2) and EGR (1).  Haynes has a diagram:



I've got a photo of it somewhere on here, but can't find it just now.  Will look on photobucket in a mo.

Access isn't nice, possibly easier from below if you can get the car up on ramps.

Found out why the temp gauge aint working. Theres no wire on it so i just need to try and find it.Does anyone know what colour the wire is

I think (looking at Haynes wiring diags) that it's a blue wire, 0.75mm˛. Seem to remember it has a rectangular black plastic housing at the end, within which is a quarter-inch spade receptacle.  One side of the housing is cut away so it can slide onto the sender like this:



Note, this image shows only how the connection is made, not the real connector/housing.

The wire for the sender i cant seem to find i have looked under the car two so is there any other way of me sorting this prob out

Find the wire to the ECU sensor temp sensor shown in the picture above and follow it back to where it joins the main conduit.......you should then be able to find the single lone wire for the gauge sensor exiting the same part of conduit.

Thanks Mark well i found the wire in the end and put it back on but now iv got a code which is 0115 Coolant temp voltage high/low

Well iv got a new sender on the way as i thought thats what the prob would be in the first place

I  think the single wire sensor operates the dash gauge and the sensor with the rectangular plug gives readings to the ECU.

I didn't think there was any electrical link between the two :-/

Im thinking that the rectangular plug (or the wires to it) must have been disturbed to bring up the error code.

Good point, well made.
Gauge sensor doesn't talk to ECU at all AFAIK, so can't throw fault codes.

Does the gauge now work correctly?

Give the connector a wiggle on the coolant sensor for the ecu (the one with the light blue connector in the photo)
