Doors won't close?????
« on: 08 January 2010, 11:48:55 »

Hilariously( not at -10 ) I am having major problems getting the doors to close in these freezing mornings.

They open easily enough but just wont catch when you shut the buggers! the little hook thingy in the door appears to be free to move as it should, I have lubricated them as well. It's obviously cold related but what a bizarre situation.

Am I alone with this problem?? Is there a solution?

Had this a couple of times over the last few weeks with my front passenger door. Just told passenger to give it a good hard slam and that seems to do it, after that it opens and closes as it should.
Probably due to the rods inside the door collecting ice.

Driver and passenger door this morning, did the old John Cleese and booted it to no avail. Entertained the neighbours though :)

I had the same symptoms back in May caused by the internal release handle and linkages seizing up.

Passenger door swung open as I turned a roundabout in front of a police car :-[ . The policeman was standing with SWMBO after an Audi had tail ended (and written off) her Micra  >:( so chose not to comment.........

Pushing the internal handle back in after opening the door was the short term solution. Taking the door cards off and lubricating everything was the permanent fix.

Check button fully up and try waggling the inside door handle a bit - worked with mine  :y

Had this yesterday with the estate. The car had spent the night under cover (works car park) so was free from snow ice etc. Got home parked up for six hours and just had a slight frost on the windscreen. Could I get the bl@@dy door open , no >:( so poured warm water around the seals, that freed it. But the dam thing wouldn't shut, so sprayed some lubricating fluid into the door latch, but it was still stuck.
Had to get to the doctors within 20mins so abandoned the estate and tried the saloon. Bl@@dy pain that was, it was covered in three inches of snow and ice, and I couldn't get into it as all the doors were solidly frozen. Anyway after many kettles full of warm water I got in, 40mins late for the doc's, they were not happy :(
Got back home tried the estate door again and the thing closed this time. If I had tried and noticed the catch spins round, it just needed spinning around the opposite way to which I was trying, if you follow me, simples :-[

Mick ;)

Yep, had this yesterday. Let it tick over and warm up, then heaters on full for a few mins and the ice will melt and the locks should free up.  :y

Give yoursleves a good 15 mins to get the car warm and ready in the morning when the weather's like this.

this used to happen on my stripped out impreza occasionaly, try pouring boiling water over the latch, just remember to spray some oil "duck oil is bet imho" on after.
