On the slippery sufaces we are experiencing at the moment the traction control is working overtime but it is normal for the engine to seem like it is coughing and sluttering while the TC is working and the wheels are spinning

yes, it stops firing on 2 of the cylinders to reduce power, and hopefully get grip

Turn it off!!
Put it in drive and select the ice button and gentle on the throttle, in ice the TC is not so good as in the wet.

Cheers i thought at first something was a miss but the engine runs great otherwise now i know all is well i did try it with TC off and with winter mode on whoooooooooh less gas i think

Hmm,  I would have said the same, turn the TC off and go easy.  however.....

Having to climb the hill to my house after my neighbour said that she could not get her golf up it, well I thought I was going to have fun.  Not a bit of it.  gentle throttle and let the TC do the rest and up it I went.  Really surprised

You can still get very crossed up with it on... ...Trust me, I know

If it turn it off I can get on my inclined driveway much easier using winter mode on the gearbox, however once I'm moving, I knock it back on, as it's helpful once I've got some speed up

to aid traction a couple of clicks on the handbrake helps, unless you have LSD already. Wide tyres and RWD do not make for grip in these awful conditions.

I've a manual so start in 2nd with TC on (once away from parked cars I turn it off for some fun). I also have 2 paving slabs in the boot which makes a big difference to the grip. Going up hills with the slabs in I tend to do better than front wheel drive cars!

i turn off the tc as i found it hindered me setting off also got 3 bags of gravel in the boot  that goes back to the good old bays of owning a mk 2 rs 2000  ive put most off my neighbours to shame even pulled one of there corsas out of the road on tuesday once im moving put tc back on as its easy to 360 the car if you get heavy with the throttle

i couldn't get in to our close and on to my drive yesterday, wheel spinning all over the place, and that was just with a tiny bit of throttle, i had to make 4 attempts to do so, the traction control was on i think, if the TC symbol is not lit up on the dashboard, does this mean its ON?
anyway, when the TC symbol was lit up after i pressed it, i got the car up with ZERO problems, bizarre?
