Variable revs problem on V6.
« on: 12 January 2010, 09:57:13 »

During the emissions test you have to hold the revs at 2500. I couldn't !

You get to 2500 and after about 10 seconds it dropped about 700 rpm. pressed my foot down again and got it back to 2500 then same thing happened again. Same when I got home.

Could this be a vacuum problem maybe the reservoir? How do you test it?  I have had a very long standing car performance issue (under acceleration it sounds like a tractor). maybe just maybe this is the cause!

could bue multi rams/vac related. Rev the nuts off the engine from the engine bay and see if the multirams move. 1 on inlet another back of plenum pass side, trace the vac pipes back for leaks and electrical connectors.

Also possible maf issue maybe?

Just got car out. warmed it up and revved the nuts off it. Quite scary!

The front multi ram actuator moved on a couple of occasions. It moves quites distinctly and fully. The rear one (at the back of the plenum) didn't move. In fact I have never seen it move in 10 years! It is free to move and plugged in.

Over time and just now, I have checked the various vac connections and electrical conns and cables and not found anything. That is why I wondered if the vacuum tank might be at fault. I don't think it is the MAF. I had a new one of those last year after having stalling issues.

I tried the 2500 revs test and it stayed there quite happily.

I really need to ask the author of the topic!

Do you remember, how did you sort the problem? My car has the same problem holding revs steady and then after 10 or so seconds revs start to drop. I can't seem to find related topic. Please, respond.
