Possible, i did have a cheapo one, then bought a 'proffesional' 3 ton low one, cost me about £60.

Even if you buy the jack, its still cheaper than what Vaux quoted, then 2/3 changes down the line you are quids in.

Due to my millage, i change my oil every 4-6 weeks.

Ironic really, the type of driving you do would warrant fully synthetic oil & 20,000 mile changes (whereas the vehicles that really need more frequent changes [used for the weekly shop] probably aren't getting them)

You don't need to ..    Just get yourself a few miles up the road and I'll help you do it ...    I can also get you the stuff on TC.  And if we get lucky SWTSMBO might even make coffee

After 3k i know it needs a change, hard to put my finger on it, but does not run quite as well, little rougher in the morning, someone else would not notice it, but i do.

Has more of an effect on 4 pots, for the small cost, its worth it.

Except on very high performance engines that NEED fully synth, I'd always recommend using semi, and changing slightly more regular. That will be far better for the engine, and work out cheaper


I'm with Tunnie, 3k oil change (mine most does 27 mile journeys), changing the oil when it starts to change from clear to darker...

griffin - I'd take up Entwoods offer of help. He'll be able to show you around the v6, giving you confidence to perhaps tackle other work when it needs doing.  Its nice to know there is the forum to fall back on, and a set of tools up the road

It really is a doddle, costs me around £10 to change my oil with GM filter and oil.

And i find the gm oil is quite good,i tend to tip some engine flush in for a couple of days prior to oil change to loosen any crud.

Wouldn't recommend that on modern engines mate - losens crud which later blocks up oilways!!

Quick changes, 1 every 500 miles for 2k would do a better job than flushing agents.

Flush agents would be too abrasive, unless if you are having issues, i would stick to just fresh 10/40

Nope oil change was first, then a gold 1998 Reflection, bought for £300 (very poor ebay advert) -  Practiced on things, fixed up, did a propper AT sale, sold for £850
