Will it set them off
« on: 11 January 2010, 16:21:58 »

I'm having a fixed towbar fitted to my 2001 3.2 will it
set off the reversing sensors ?
I did a little experiment by putting a plastic box where
the towbar would be and nothing happened.
Does anybody have any experience with this.
Or should I get a detachable, but they are twice the
price.. :-/

No idea about the sensors, Entwood will know, but get a detachable ..... you know it makes sense!!!!     and it'll look (or not) better!  ;)  ;)  ;)

All bloody shin breakers should be detachable, rather things.  Personally, I think all towing should be banned. Along with horseboxes.

"Detachable" fixed ones look 'crap' on Omega's and your shin's will never be the same again.

No, is the answer, the tow bar will not affect the sensors and give false signals.

No it won't ...  :)

The guy that fitted my towbar was a bit of a perfectionist (I'm glad as he was having to modify the irmscher rear a tad !!).

Before commencing any work whatsoever he opened the boot with reverse selected, igntion on and proceeded to kneel in the boot with a short length of wood to wave about and work out exactly where the "active" areas were .. as he called them. He then made a few light marks with a wax pencil before actually starting to fit the towbar.

Just a warning .. if the wiring is not done in some "clever" way , the parking sensors will go off all the time while you reverse with a trailer connected .. :)
