Check coolant level?

Forgive me if this has been answered already. I have only had the car a week and since i got my mits on it the dash display always reads, coolant level. I have checked the coolant and all is well and it hasnt dropped over the week. Im presuming this must be a faulty sensor/loose cable in the water system and the car thinks its low on water. Firstly if its this is it easy to change? Secondly, will this be kicking the ECU into limp mode or not?

float sensor nackered, clips in from underneath, scrappy or breaker a good source for replacement  :y

yes.

you can try hitting the sensor ring with pencil / screwdriver etc, as they can get stuck, but bit of a clutching at straws thing.

new tank with sensor is about £30 new.

i'd ring 1st, unlikely to be a stock item.

they need to know its the sensor tank you want, as there are 2 types  :y

the alternative is just unplug the sensor and short out the connector with a paperclip....no more alert.

But you do lose a useful (imho) sensor doing that

also be aware you will lose coolant during the swap, so either drain it into something you can keep it in, or get some fresh for the topup

Had this intermittently on my 2.5td for about a year now. Cleared it by emptying reservoir and cleaning it out, as someone suggested rust particles. Was OK for about 6 months then started again. If you decide to try this, no need to drain whole system, just clamp pipes before disconnecting. I shall probably change the tank eventually. :y

I swapped mine earlier this week for the one that is sat in the 'spares' car and it cured the problem.I did try the repair procedure but it was to no avail.It is a fairly simple job to do so even a gorilla like me managed to get it done.
