Hi

Can anyone tell me a substitute Manual Winding Crank tool, to manually wind a faulty electric seat forward (ideally something found in most peoples tool box)?

The original one is not with the tool kit in the boot of the car so looking for something i can use as to be honest I dont even know what one looks like.

If you have a long (6 to 8 inches) thin bladed flat screwdriver that will go into the end of the motor then this will do as long as the motor and seat moves freely. A larger blade that you could file down to fit would be ideal. If needed cut the handle off and weld a nut on so you can use a socket on it.

So would i be right in saying the winding crank tool is like a flat headed screwdriver on the end?

Also, which part of the underside of seat do I poke the end of the screwdriver into as the handbook does not really say or show the precise part where to put the tool.

Also is it shown in a Haynes manual how to do it as I would be willing to purchase one.

If you look under the front of the seat from the foot well, you'll see the square hole in the middle of the motor, 4mm? square, this is where you'r putting the tool. But as in my other, reply & others, it'll be an obstruction/coin in the mechanism. If the motot won't move your seat, then I doubt very much if the tool will move it! 
And I don't have one either

Only if your seat goes back & forward electrically I believe. :-/

I still cant find any coin - I have seriously had a look and can even see through the runners and cant even see anything apart from all the way through the end.

Have got the hoover but still nothing.

I am stuck as cant even gain access to the rear bolts to take seat out.

Also have tried a flat head screwdriver but it does not really grip the hole to manually turn the adjuster.

Help me please.

Not got a cranking tool .. but have had the problem ... twice 



The best way to see is to get behind the drivers seat .. head to the floor, and shine a torch down the the side of left seat rail  difficult to see but doable... the coins drop down through the small gap where the seatbelt stalk meets the seat rail, between the stalk and the seat.

Can take a LOT of getting out (about 2 hours) and involve a long screwdriver, a pair of very long nosed pliers and a LOT of swearing ...

EDIT ... if it moves at all electrically and then sticks ... I don't think the cranking tool will help at all . ... thats only for a knackered motor I believe ??

Hi

All good news - I got the object out.

I managed to make my own cranking tool out of a normal socket set with a square ended screwdriver bit attached to end of socket.

Took ages but managed to get the seat forward enough for my correct seating position.

BUT when looking at the back of the drivers seat from the rear I saw a coin - picked it up and thought it was a foreign coin but on closer inspection it was the middle of a £2 coin.

And a closer inspection on the runner I saw the outer part (gold piece) of the coin.

I have yet to remove the outer part of coin as it was getting dark but seat now moves backwards and forwards.

I must have been turning and cutting the coin like a tin opener when I was cranking the seat manully.

For the life of me I could not see a coin prior to my discovery no matter how hard I looked.

Everyones suggestion has been greatly appreciated.

I use a battery (12v) drill/driver and flexy drive with a square ended bit from one of the multi bit sets that are avaiable for a few quids (even asda sell them). So much quicker and easier than by hand and no blisters. You can even set the torque to prevent any damage to just enough to turn it.
