Heat only from passenger side?
« on: 01 January 2010, 18:33:30 »

Hi to all, this is my first posting so be gentle with your replys !!!.
I only have heat on the passenger side of my 3.2 elite ,having read numerous threads on this site i am a little confused on where to start looking,by that i mean in which order do i try to find the fault.
If anyone can point me in the right direction i would be most grateful.
Happy New Year to everyone .

Ok , thanks for the thread i have taken it all in and will be trying the task out tomorrow.
Does anyone know what the motor is called and also what its purpose in life is ??? , by that i mean does it regulate how much heat goes to either side of the vents.

I  have taken a look at the motor , everything looks fine there, still only heat from passenger side, i have read a few threads about the HBV , could this perhaps be the culprit?.Is there anyway of testing its performance or that its working !!! other than fitting a new one, looks like a fiddly job.

If you are getting any heat at all .. the HBV is doing its job ... if you only get heat from one side it means the "flaps" that control the air movement are not working correctly. They are controlled by motors  that move levers that move the flaps.

It is not uncommon for the arms that connect the motors to the flaps to become disconnected... that would be my first check ...  :)

If you can see the motor ... does it "move" when someone changes from hot to cold, or screen to foot

Thanks for that info about the HBV,so i can rule that out,so i need to play around with the controls while watching what happens under the dash,i must admit when i checked the motor i did not try moving the controls about as the lever looked located ,but will try your idea on wednesday ,thanks very much, will keep you posted.

I have finally had a go at trying to find the motor as per http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1196616207 ,i removed the glovebox as well just to give me a little more room and light.
But i am having trouble finding the black cap with the motor, does anyone know if its the same location on my elite ?so still only one side of heat!!!

Sounds like you're looking in the wrong place mate! The motor you are looking for is located in the drivers footwell behind the centre console ;) :y

I'm really hoping you find whats wrong as i have exactly the same problem. i've followed those instructions in that thread months ago but sadly all was in order and the motor/arm doing their jobs. i'm guessing its whatever is on the other end of the moving arm has got stuck but damned if i can find out what is attached to the other end of the arm. its been a tough winter so far haha

yeah i know the feeling.
I have found the motor at lst, yes it was in the drivers footwell,so a little different.
The plastic arm isindeed swinging in the breeze!!!, so i have spentthe last 2 hours trying to attach it to the motor, but withot sucess, has nybody got a pic that i can loo at just to see where it is supposed to clip back on!!!.
I have tried to remove the motor by taking out the hex screws ,unplug the power lead, but it wont pull out,
I hav had to give up for today due to me hands bleeding raw from the plastc trim, lol.
So any advice would be very most welcome befor i break something in anger.

hmm, makes me wonder if i've looked at the wrong thing then as my motor was definitely in the passenger side footwell as the instructions said. i might go n check my drivers side footwell then and see if theres something else on that side that ive missed. now fed up with half a demisted windscreen n cold half of the car, thank god for heated seats  ;)

mine was exactly where Philrich said it was, nice and easy to find, but a pigs ear to get to,i am hoping this is my culprit, what i have done as a temp fix and also to test that this is indeed the problem, is to tape the plastic arm in the down mode, will let you know later once i have taken car out to warm up.

I did mine on the drivers side just before christmas. Found it easier to remove the motor to do it. If you can't get it off , youve missed a screw. There's one up on the left of the motor that's difficult to see without a torch. Once you've removed it the motor will fall away. Well worth the effort . Mines lovely & toasty now.

Hi, that could explain why the motor did not come away, i removed two hex screws ,so will take a closer look in the morning , once my hands have stoped bleeding, and also my temper has calmed, can i ask you , were you able to attach the arm with the motor off ,then bolt it back on or did you have to feel around in the dark !!!!!!!!!  ?
