Arr still wont run
« on: 28 January 2010, 10:39:20 »

Ok lets take it from the top.

When i bought the td it was flashing the engine managment light when revs droped and cut out a lot with min fuel.
After a good look at this forum i proceded with the good paperclip test with no real faults to worey about. Knowing previas owner didnt care how his fuel came i asumed that filters blocked, with reading a post about `cuting out under 10L` I proseded to clean the fuel lift pump with this clean and reasembled corectly (I have gon back to it to make sure). I asumed that it needed bleading to later find out she is a self bleader ok noproblem. The spilloff pipes had seen beter dayes so i bought new ones this morning and changed them. The car now fires but not tick over arr , back under bonit and oops left the injection nut off so i have now replaced it but now battery to flat to turn the enginr over.

I gese that this post is looking for someone to reashuer me that i probably have done the moste of the work and just need to charge the battery for the beast to run.
If enyone can give me some other proactive prosedgers to take while wating for this battery and also is ther enithing els i could cheack.

Just like santa i have cheekt it ones and cheked it twice evan added another galon of fuel. Nothin out of place all tight no apparant leekes but still not runing just fireing up one stedy reve to 3kish then off she turns again , poxy battry flat again now. I have evan taken good look at the earth leads and they seem well conected with no corosian around conecting metals. (just a spear thought as bought a non runer few years back after previas owner changed engine fuel lines/pump ext and never conected the earth straps to body or engine. Was he upset seing me drive his babby away ;D)

A bit of a long shot here ........
Remove the fuel filter, and check that both it, and the fuel heater are securely tightened to the cast alloy filter head.

Exactly where are you in South Wales?

anonimity dont wory about shizzle like that. Im just outside porthcawl in not so sunny north Cornelly.

Its drawing fuell through ok I should change the glow plugs but as its has run in past with easy start for starting cold i asumed it would do same now. My main problem stemd from runing out of fuel now cant keep the whoomph in battery to start it. I need to finde patience to give it a better charge or wish(well we can all wish) one of the neighbours was here to borow there jump leads as could jump it off my pug, befor someone sugests take the battri off the pug to start it thers no way in this world it would do half a revoluton of the dieasle engine as this battry only just turns the pug after standing for five days.

O my goodnes me I am a tit on times i think the fiering is just the easy start catching and not the fuel making it fire up could be why it wont run. I have still got fuel runing out of the return flow tubes (or whatever ther calle think you all know what im on about) so it might just be the sake of heating fuel.

I know im fealing so stupid now buying a deasl not knowing much about them.

Ok all good now, Dragd the car 200m or so and running as though thed never been a problem. Took previas owner around the block and he asked how i turned off the engine manegment light, im asuming that changing the brital hoses for nice new ones and giving the lift pump a good clean is all it took.

First thing tomorow new glo plugs and no more starting problems.

So in all i have lernt nothing from this event exept if your desal iscuting out then try replacing the return fuel lines incase its drawing in air not so much leeking.

Result - well done mate!

Get reputable glow plugs. Kenfig Factors in Port Talbot sell NGK for around 35 quid-ish for six.
Do not fit crappy Ebay-type plugs.

Let us know how you get on - and never use aero-start again.

Definately not mate.
Fit a reputable make from the likes of NGK or Beru.
I've dealt with Kenfig Factors a lot over the years, and the NGK plugs I had from them are still going strong over two years later in my previous tractor. Nobody beat them on price either, and I'd think that they're the closest and most convenient suppliers to you.

And as for using aero-start - forget it.
I saw what this stuff did to our engines when I was a fitter on the buses a few years back. We even had one turbocharger blow backwards when given a lethal overdose!

Kenfig's number is 01639 885089/884297/887293.
Their stock number is NGKY-924J, so best to give 'em a ring first thing in the morning before you leave the house.
