Have a facelift Omega (MY00) 2.5 V6.

The coolant level came on the other week, although the level looked ok, I put some anti-freeze/coolant in (not much as the level was ok)). Played with the float and it goes up and down.

Anyway, the light went out and all ok since.

However, since the really cold weather/snow, the light is now back on but the coolant level is OK.

I'm guessing it's a sensor issue (so not too worried unless the warning remains once the weather warms up again) or something else? Any ideas? As I say, the actual coolant level is OK, car runs fine, no over-heating etc.

I've read the fix is a new expansion tank £33 from VX. Is this the only solution? Can the current one be "fixed"? Is it easy to remove and clean out (or replace if need be)?

sensor nacked, grab one from a scapper or a breaker here. It clips in from underneath the expansion tank.

Some folks have cleaned the tank with descaler type stuff, sometimes works for a while ... but generally its a new tank for £35 ish

Tunnie isn't the sonsor combined with the bottle?
From what I've read you need to change the whole coolant tank and cannot change the sensor only

No, it can be taken out.

Hmm will try that one tiime when it is little warmer cause mine was knackered since I bought the car.

Have the same problem, and was looking at it this evening, however I was reluctant to remove the sensor as I was not quite sure how it is sealed into the tank. Does it push into a ruuber seal?

Need to be careful, often snaps the sensor, but if its nackered, does not matter.

It's pressed into the base of the header tank, but not in a rubber grommet/seal. A new header tank is required!

A new tank comes with a new sensor for £35 ish .. or buy a used tank with a used sensor from a breaker !!!

There is .. IMHO ....  absolutely no point in trying to remove the sensor !!!

The float is just that .. with a magnet in it that activates the sensor. You can "twiddle" the float through the cap with a finger or screwdriver, might sort it for a while .. but history shows that a new one works best.

There is .. IMHO ....  absolutely no point in trying to remove the sensor !!!

Or want to buy a sensor from UK.Probably the coolant tank would cost a fortune to send to my country
