A Couple of problems I need advice on ........
« on: 12 January 2010, 22:45:04 »

Hi All,
Im new to the forum and am glad to find an Owners club for my well loved car.

I have recently purchased a 2001 Facelift Omega 2.6 V6 and have recently had a couple of faults which i need advice on, if anyone can help.

1, I have noticed that when i have the heater blower on manual (for screen or vents), the heat is hot for a minute or two then suddenly cools down, to get the heat back i have to put on to Auto when it seems ok, What could the fault be ????

2, On getting in my car today, I was shocked to see the outside temp guage showing -40c, I know its been cold but that is way out, is there a sensor somewhere that could be faulty, If so is it easy to do and where is it.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

"Hello" and welcome :)

Hopefully these comments might help ...

1) Heater only hot for a shorttime at max fan, then ok with lower speed fan.

Assuming the engine temperature is normal .. ie  about the middle of the gauge... this sounds like a partially blocked heater matrix, so the water flow is insuficient to match the airflow at high demand. It might be worth doing a "reverse flush" of the heater matrix ..... take the two pipes off at the bulkhead in the engine bay ( a tad tight to get to mind) and puit a hose pipe on to fully flush out any crud. Once sorted make sure you top up with 50:50 antifreeze mix

2) Temp indicator problem.

Sensor is just under the front bumper, easy to change and probably one of the guys breaking will have one ... check the "parts for sale" section

You are exceedingly lucky to live in northants .. as one of the sites renowned experts is very close to you   :y :y :y

HTH  :)

Haynes Manual, yep they are ok but do not help with the poor diagrams and if you have very limited knowledge anyway. Still worth having one though for the information on it.
Reverse flushing - dead easy, there are loads of posts on how to do it. Have a look in the Maintenance Guides section too - look at its index first.
Done it myself quite a few times now.
My Climate Control went a bit haywire and affected the cabin temperature just as vyours is. So also check to see if the cabin temperature sensors are working and clean. They are behind the dashboard front vents. These just ease the grilles out by prising them from the side gently and you can then see the sensor in front of you. Mine were filthy but once cleaned were ok and the cabin temperature is now fine.

Thanks for your advice guys.

Ive brought a second hand 'Outide Temp Sensor' and have fitted it, Temp display still says ' F    .   C', this has obviously not cured the fault, Is there anything else which could be casuing a Fault or do i need to reset the new sensor ???

As regards to the reverse flushing to help the heat in the car, Im going to do somemore reading up and attempt it at the weekend.

Any tips or advice given would be grateful.

I too am having a problem getting heat into the cabin. New HBV and serious flushing of the matrix (including soaking it in kettle descaler to shift any fur) hasn't really cleared the problem. Yours is the first mention I have come across of the cabin temp sensors. Which vents are they behind and how do I get the vent nozzles out?
