Didn't think a 2.6 had an EGR valve

found a unit on drivers side that is on a flexible mount and has water pipes going into it, the leccy connector was off , do you know what this unit is

Is it fixed to a bracket that is fixed to the inner wing, if so its part of the winter pack for the heater

yes thats the one thanks ,so its not that thats causing my problem. thinking about it my screen heater hasnt been getting very hot , perhaps thats what was causing that

yes thats the one thanks ,so its not that thats causing my problem. thinking about it my screen heater hasnt been getting very hot , perhaps thats what was causing that

Winter pack helps the heater matrix get hot water quicker, if anything screen heater should be hotter than normal, Jimbob made a guide for flushing the heater matrix

When it cuts out, does it run rough, then die? or simply cut out cleanly?

Worth checking the fuel filter, drivers side i think, small cylinder object, up by the petrol tank, should be changed every couple of years, that could be blocked.

changed that about 14 months ago about 9000 miles

just out of interest do you know the part number of the crank sensor the dealer gave you? Its not unheard of for a Vx dealer to give a 2.5 V6 sensor instead of the 2.6.

No idea what difference there is, but they have different part numbers, so must be different  :-/

sometimes i run for about 4 miles and its fine . if i leave it for a little while and run it again it starts playing up
