Vibrations
« on: 07 February 2010, 12:19:40 »

Hello
Ok i've just been on a long run on motorway ( i dont do motorways very often in my normal day to day stuff ).... im still getting a non constant vibration from 55mph upwards  >:( ...its not through the steering , it feels like the whole car ... i did get the wheels balanced all round a few months ago paying paticular attention to the rears .... this vibration seems to come and go with no pattern to it , can drive a few miles without but then gradually it starts for a while then fades away again ... its not too severe but its there and doesnt make for a nice drive ... i have changed drop links myself a few months back along with steering idler and track rods done at a garage and disks/pads myself again ... no judder on braking .... im wondering if i have a bent wheel but wouldnt that show on balance machine  .... she still tramlines and still feels a bit vauge at speed with lots of little inputs needed on steering... sometimes feels really light and floaty at the front  ... so should i throw more money at her and have wishbones done aswell  :-/ :-/
I may just have answered my own question here but thanks for any suggestions
Oh and looks like my A/C is goosed as well  :'( :'(

Cheers

if you under the car grab one shaft with left and one with right and twist like ringing out a towel if it move's easy or any play would say its worn out that would give vibrations, then smoth out.

Please don't get under it using just a jack! Ramps are the best/easiest way.

It would appear NOT to change with revs or accelaration or deceleration ... its only from 50ish upwards .

Could be a bucked wheel, hit any big pot holes since the snow? Might be worth swapping front and rears, see if there is any change
