Slap & Tickle when cold...
« on: 09 February 2010, 14:48:23 »

Funny thing, when cold my 2.0 GLS makes a light slapping / ticking noise in time with the engine revs until it warms up - could this become  a problem?  :-?

4 pots are noisey when cold, but its worth checking the exhaust manifold for any cracks

mine is getting a bit tappety again now, but its over-due an oil change. Fresh oil really helps the 4 pots run a bit smoother  :y

Had same on mine, now much better after:

Oil
Three 10w40 semi synth oil and filter changes in 5,000 miles
1/ First change with flush treatment
2/ Second with valve lifter treatment
3/ Third just the oil on its own

Exhaust leaks
New manifold gasket
New manifold studs
Replacement cat
Replacement three part exhaust
Exhaust sensors tightened.

It still ticks very slightly for few couple of seconds before the oil reaches the top end, but is much better than the original racket and runs silently after 20 seconds now.

See sig link below for other works needed on my 102k 4pot  :o
