Found the advisory for my new mig, only concern is
"Nearside idler mount Steering pivot point has slight play"

2 questions please, how much for the part and is it a pig to do ? could be the cause of woolly steering ? thats 3 !
I guess it will be a 4 wheel alignment after the change as well ...

 :exclamation Don't be tempted by the cheaper ones on ebay, they're rubbish!!

3. Yes, will cause tramlining and wondering on uneven road surfaces and a woolley sensation in the steering. Changing should tighted the steering noticably.

If the tracking was correct before the steering idler became worn then fitting a new one shouldn't require an alignment check.

However, if you are anywhere near Hertford it is well worth taking your Omega to WIM (Wheels in Motion) to have the suspension set up properly (especially the front camber).

Only picked the car up Mon night, so not sure of tracking.
I'm in S Wales, so WIM prob a bit far.
I'll look for somewhere local.
Probably change idler sat if weather ok, and treat it to some new fluids and filters

More questions !

Did about 200 miles yesterday (30 mpg  )

Got a slight knock now over bumps, would the idler cause that ? 2 ball joints were changed for the mot, so hopefully nothing else is worn  :-/

I changed a pair on Markseth's about a year ago, and still okay with no problems.
I think he paid about 18 quid for the pair from a local factors. They're readily available from many local outlets.

Right... changed the idler yesterday, but had to cut the nut off the ball joint due to it popping out of the taper before the nut fully off   

Anyone know the thread size please ?  18mm AF, so maybe m12 metric fine ?

just an update for info, idler now changed, much less wander and vagueness in steering.

Offside front tyre is worn quite bad on inside though, so tracking needs doing.

And nut size is m12 x 1.5 (metric fine) for reference, had to aquire a die and run the threads down on mine !

Look good quality, and nearside fitted fine. Stay away from vx for these I think
