Gonna Fail it's MOT - Steering Idler
« on: 05 February 2010, 14:20:49 »

Just checked the car over for the MOT and the Steering idler is goosed :( ::)

May have to replace wishbones too but I think they're OK... Certainly seem OK but it's down to the testers opinion... I don't think there's excessive play but... We'll wait and see ::) ::)

Oh... And I'll stick 2 new tyres on too as they're getting near the limit.

So... I'll order the Idler now (can't remember the best source but I'll look in a moment). Do I put the MOT off by a couple of days as I wont get a chance to do it before next Friday, and change it first or do I stick it in and see if it fails on anything else :-/ :-/ :-/

I reckon I can probably get anything done by the following Monday, assuming it's nothing major, and retest then with no issues. Everything else seems OK, obviously emissions and headlamp aim are unchecked, so should be another years ticket for a reasonable price :y :y :y

I beleive the <15 ones are aftermarket and in chocolate teapot category.

the £30 ones are worth buying.

I'd stick it in, then you know what it needs and you know it will pass second time. if you fix what you think is wrong and then put it in, there could be something serious.

Quick question please.
How much free play at the steering wheel is too much. Mine moves about one and a half inches before moving the road wheels. (Steering lock off and engine not running)
Seems a bit sloppy.
Cheers all. ;) :D :D
