Omega LSD
« on: 09 February 2010, 00:12:36 »

I've found out that my current ex-plod MV6 was supplied with an LSD.
If it is fitted with an LSD then it doesn't seem to be working properly. During a quick drive to test it out last night the inside wheel was spinning away the power on sharp corners, and a quick test on a quiet lane with 1 wheel on wet grass and one on tarmac just resulted in the wheel on grass spinning all the power away.
Do the LSDs often stop working properly, and can they usually be fixed easily if they do, or is it more likely it has been replaced with an open diff at some point in it's life? I'll try and have a look for an identification label on the diff, but I'll be suprised if there's anything visible after 9 years.

Cheers ;)

You sure? Not all plod cars had a LSD. Good be goosed if it does have one fitted, you need a specific diff oil for them, or as you say, it could hve been transfered to A N OTher car over the years.  ;)

Sounds to me like no LSD on the car, not all plod's were fitted.  :(

Have a look at this post Dan, might help with the ID label.

lots of right or left lock, and a boot full of throttle from stationary should get that LSD moving, back end will feel very different to a normal Omega.

Well I'm pretty sure it was supplied with one as I got this information from my registration number from someone who works at Vauxhall:

AXLE,LIMITED SLIP
AXLE RATIO, 3.90
M79, MANUAL TRANSMISSION
W4G, EX POLICE CAR

Is it a metal plate attatched to the diff for identification or just a sticker? And where abouts on the diff casing is it, is it easy to see or is it stuck up the side somewhere hard to reach?

Cheers.

Probably is an LSD however, its worth changing the diff oil as the friction modifiers egrade with use/time.

BOA90LS from opie oils comes recommended

Thanks alot, strangely enough someone else told me earlier today that on their just an oil change converted their non-working LSD to a working one so hopefully that's all it is.
Are there no other parts that need servicing or replacing in the diff aswell or just oil changes?
