Problems with new Omega
« on: 14 February 2010, 19:56:31 »

Hi all.

So I have finally bought a new Omega, this time 1998 MV6 Saloon. Its dashboard is changed to facelift one and it has BOSE system. It should have around 180000km. I would like to ask some questions :)

- It runs much better than my 2.5 estate, but the consumption is cca 2-3 lower so far. Is it possible, or can be there some problem?
- When I am quickly accelerating, I can hear some whistling noise from rear. It is very quiet and it is like bad turbo :) What can be the cause?
- The 2 DIN audio is only for cassete. Is there some option for CDs? As I understood, aftermarket audio cannot be connected with BOSE.
- Since this is my first Omega bought, what should I check? :) My previous one was a gift and I knew the owner...
- Last question for now :) I am thinking about chip, which should go about 170kw/310Nm. Is it worht? I mean, will there be any notable improvement?

Thank you very much for any support :)

That looks like a CCRT2007 which should have a seperate CDC cd changer.....the trouble is, this radio unit was never fitted to the Omega!

So, is the changer in the glove box?

Well spotted!  :y
I saw the facelift dash & just assumed facelift car, but it's a 94 car and it also has pre facelift door cards with electric window switches on the centre console.  :-/  :-/

::)he did say that in the original post.. ;)   and it seems to be a 98 rather than 94 per his sig.

I do wonder why anyone would change the dash though(I'm surpised it even fits) :-/

If its 3L , you would expect consumption to be a bit lower.  Are they both autos -if the previous one was manual that would make a big difference, esp round town .

A good service, new filters, plugs, breather clean, pump tyres up may improve things.

Has the timing belt been done recently and properly?

If the exhaust is on the way out that may also affect consumption.

Does the MV6 have different gear or diff ratios to 'normal' Omegas? That might explain the difference in mpg?

Hi, thanks for all responses :)
In my sig is my old Omega - 2.5 V6 from 1994. This one I bought recently, so I didnīt update my sig yet :) It is 3.0 from 1998.
I do not know why it has facelift dash :( Honestly I think that the old dash is better since I have more space for legs (I think :) ). But it is done and it was cheap, so I have to get used to it :) I will check the glove box for CD changer.
I expected worse consumption with 3.0 My 2.5 displayed 39 actual when accelerating, this one only around 20... The average was again cca 10 for 2.5 and around 8 for 3.0
But if it is OK, I am happy :)

Thanks for the response. It is not like a wind noise. The sound can be heard only during acceleration. It is really like bad turbo - I once drove a Skoda Octavia with malfunctioning one and now I thought "wow, where did I got a TDI" :))) It is very quiet, high pitch sound and disappears during maintaing speed. But once I step on accelerator, it is back again :(

Wow, thanks a lot :) That seems to by my problem... I didnīt notice that there is not an original exhaust. I tried to listen from back of a car while my friend pressed the accelerator and it really seems that the exhaust is making that noise :)
