grinding sound on right turns....
« on: 20 February 2010, 18:57:03 »

Think i broke something on the 2.2  :( - Some moron who decided to use the left hand lane on a round-about to go all the way around to get to the M40 services  >:(

Slammed on the brakes, 40-0 stop almost instantly, fair play to the guy behind me he was close, but avoided hitting me.

After i filled up with some motion lotion, turning right pulling out, heard this awful grinding noise  :o

Seems to be on right hand turns (far as i can tell) and its metal/grinding on metal, it increases with speed. Tested it going round a mini-roundabout a few times, its quite loud, without the windows down its very noticeable  :(

Does not seem to do it on left hand turns, but not found any left hand round-abouts to test it on  ::)

I am thinking wheel bearing? - I did have a fair bit of left lock on when i stomped on the brakes.

Thinking about it, i should have not braked so well, and taken him out  ;D

Might you have broken a spring with that heavy bout of braking? :-/

My guess, you have wear on the discs and an outer and inner lip is present. The sudden and hard braking has altered where the pads normally sit  and on  the right hand turns the pads are coursing the lip or lips.

Discs are 2 years old, just put fresh pads on couple of weeks ago, slight lip on the pads, nothing big.
