found out why my car pulls left
« on: 21 February 2010, 11:59:54 »

ive had my mig tracked up yet again ,still pulls left greatly , so me and a friend decided to measure the wheels on both sides....

turns out he passenger side rear wheel is about 1 inch further back than it should be , ooooopppps

guessing the rear arm buggered but spoke to a vaux friend he says better to change rear sub frame and arms for fresh . so gonna be another skint month , subframe 75 pounds  it will have to go to garage as no room in mine due to other projects . :'(

you do get abit of left pull as the camber in the road pull you that way,, best place to check camber on car id a car park or some were flat, and see if it dose it there, they put camber on the tracking when made. as long as it dont pull your hands round on the road should be ok but if it jerks you wile driving get it fixed.

Where are you measuring from?
I would not go changing anything until you can isolate exactly where you think that inch is lost.Until then dont go guessing, unless you have nothing else to do and have a supply of free parts.

I might be barking up the wrong tree here but if your nearside wheel is further back than the offside then the rear subframe is rotated fractionally anti-clockwise, making your rear axle point toward the kerb .... surely this would give the car a tendency for the rear to crab towards the kerb, and therefore pull right at the front, rather than left?? :-?

Not sure where you live 'xwai' but as said, before you spend £70 on bits put the money towards the petrol and take the Omega to Tony at (WIM) Wheels In Motion, not only can he tell you whats wrong, in most cases he can fix it.
From £60 for OOF members, brilliant.

i live in leicester , the car has been a bit vague since i took out both nearside wheels (badly - managed to v both wheels) on a central kerb reservation at just over the speed limit , was late for work , ,,,,, was even later after oppsed both wheels and tyres , thats what i think has made the rear wheel shift , it is noticable now its on different wheels altogether .

rear subrame has large rubber bushes to absorb that sort of thing and both front and rear subframes can be thrown on the car so badly it can easily add up to an inch differance in wheel base no problem at all.

There hasnt been a production car made yet where the wheels all line up perfectly and i doubt your kerb has bent anything more than the wheel itself.

As said, visit Tony at Wheels in motion, or ring for a chat first.

Last thing on the list is to change the arm.
