Central Locking IS Locking me out!
« on: 22 February 2010, 14:26:12 »

Hello all,
I unlocked car,got in, put key in ignition, did'nt turn it !  Had a brain wave to check oil so poped the bonnet and got out went to the boot for the rag ,and as i pulled handle central locking shut all locks! Had to sacrifice rear window winder by forcing window down to get back in! As i aint got a spare key!  (after this episode well worth having i reckon)
This happened a few days ago, and ever since the car has been locking itself....
                        Any solutions please...........................

One of your front door locking motors is probably playing up and is telling the central locking that you have just locked that door (therefore everything else gets locked too).

Usual advice on here is to get a good secondhand locking motor/solonoid/module (different names for the same thing) and fit it yourself.

Not sure if you can tell which side is faulty just by watching the buttons pop up (or not) :-/

The locks and actuating rods can get sticky inside the doors over time so you may improve matters by removing the door cards and lubricating everything related to the latches and locks.

Check your battery is still giving out a decent voltage.Had a nissan terrano that would lock all the doors once you got in,it was all tied in with the immobiliser etc.,would only do it when the battery was nearly flat, which became evident on turning the key to start and just a slow turn over resulted instead of the normal fast turning. When the doors locked i knew it was jump leads time!

If your passenger door works normally then I would say you have identified the guilty component :y

Lets hope spring arrives before you get locked out again ;)
