HBV on a 2.2 - advice anyone?
« on: 21 February 2010, 18:01:59 »

Evening all.
I have searched the forum for any info regarding changing the HBV on a 2.2 but not having much luck [mainly v6 info]........can anyone point me in the right direction to a post?
Or - can anyone tell me where its located on engine and basically whats involved in changing it? Must be pretty similar to v6 I guess?
Symptoms - losing about a pint of coolant a week. Tested compression and not head gasket. No hoses leaking. Noticed some loss of coolant under car usually after a short journey.

its right at the back, drivers side, its actually one of the few jobs thats easier on the V6. Take the scuttle off makes things easier, no common for them to fail on 4 pots, checked the radiator itself and main rad pipes, these can split

HBV failed on my 2.0. - it was pretty clear once I had located it that that was the source of the leak. If its been doing it for any time you will probably find the area around it stained brown.

On the 2.0 it was lower down on the engine - I got to it from underneath.

Go genuine as there were some reports of dodgy aftermarket ones a while ago.

Thanks ians.
Reading other threads it appears as though when HBV goes its dramatic rather than gradual, but yours seems to be gradual, too.
You say you got at it from underneath? Does this mean I'd be wasting my time removing wipers/scuttle then? And just attacking from underside?
Yes I'm going genuine as a mates son works in local mainstealers parts dept.
