Aux belt pulleys
« on: 24 February 2010, 11:47:09 »

in my quest to locate source of top end knock from engine (detailed in another thread )
noticed that top left (looking from front of car) aux belt pulley moving when revving engine.

Now i'm hoping thats the tensioner and its suppopsed to move  !!

Noise sounds a bit like a worn cam but only noticable when engine temp around 30 - 50 degress when warming up, ok when cold and normal running temp ...  :-?

Have you slipped off the belt and run for a minute. Sounds similar to mine. The tensioner pulley does move slightly when load is applied. I am still trying to determine if the tensioner is likely to remain noisy after changing just the pulley.

I'll try it without the belt, good idea.

Is yours noisy on warm up too ?

Mine sounds a bit rattly on warm up and then just when you touch the throttle slightly. At least you can eliminate timing belt tensioner if you try it with aux belt off. Mine sounds lovely with aux belt off  :y

Pulley can be changed all on its own ... you do NOT need the whole assembly .. despite what some stealers will try and tell you.

Its a 10 minute / 1 spanner  job.

Part no 9157962   was £23 - 2 years ago...    :)

Cheers fellas  :y

Is it as simple as levering the pulley over and slipping the belt off ? Maybe after taking a photo to get the routing right, pretty serpentine down there  :o

Stick a ring spanner on the centre pulley bolt, take the tension off in a clockwise direction, lift off belt.

Rotate spanner in opposite direction to undo bolt.

When refitting the bolt you do it up against the tension .. then refit the belt.

Simples

For Andy B....thanks for the info...do you know what the 'G' pulley does as I have this on my early 1995 CDX 2.5 auto but the Aux belt fitted does not go over this 'G pulley' currently. Any ideas why not?

thanks

Sorry I don't  :-/. I would think yours isn't used cos when the 'fan belt' was last changed they either could get or just got the wrong belt for your car  ::). I wouldn't worry about not using it.  :y  :y
