My Lousy 3.2 Elite
« on: 28 February 2010, 15:33:56 »

When starting the car stinks of fuel :'( :'( :'(

I re-checked the code and it is 0300.

P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

James has suggested it may be a dis pack breaking down.
Do I get from Autovaux at a cost of £165 inc vat or is there a cheaper place to get these?
Do I need both sides or is there a way of telling which side has broken down.
Any more ££££ on this and it is going to auction.

I'd happily take it for a straight swap with my MV6  :D
No, really...the pedal trick should tell you which cylinder is misfiring...1,3,5 in one side and 2,4,6 is the other. That would tell you which coil pack would need replacing.

Don't go changing coil packs just yet, check the plugs for any oil, check condition of the plugs, worth putting a fresh set of those in, will only be £10, much cheaper than a coil pack  :y

We put new plugs in when JAMES serviced it last week.

Well, in all seriousness I'd give you the MV6 and £425 in cash on top.
But, if you do the pedal trick it will tell you which cylinder is missing, from that you'd know which side it was, for examlpe if it was 0304 that'd be cyl 4 and be the coil pack on the passenger side.

That is tempting me right now and my son is going bonkers.
I told you to take someone who knows about cars with you et al.
Kids,
If it was not for the fact my cherished transfer is on it I would be on my way, cos I am getting pissed off, my brother thinks it is a joke, and my  son runs around screaming at me,. like I need all this shite.

Let's all calm down a bit.......  :y

Spark plugs - they are fine, and brand new. No  oil or water ingress.

A pedal trick  won't tell Di which cylinder is missing - on the basis that she's already checked for codes, and the only one logged is for "random" misfire.

There is no need to get rid of the car  :y

OK, Before I make a trip to Kidlington, and is already in Sat Nav, where DO I start?

Surely it must be a dis pack, but which side?
How do I find out which side?

You lot are the brains (no pun intended) so please tell me, don't keep it a secret.

Di, have a beer, you don't need to get rid of the car, especially now it's so close to perfect!

In an ideal world, the coil packs should be tested using Tech2 and test plugs....

My gut feeling, based on previous fault codes for cylinder no4, and forum history  relating to misfires on that cylinder, that the 2-4-6 coil will be the one at fault.

But like I say, that's only gut feeling / sensible guestimate, not a diagnosis  :y

Thanks James, I love you to bits, but, sadly, I am to old to have your baby.

I will go back to an earlier posting of mine and ask 'Who is the nearest Tech2 to me'

I knew I asked this for a reason yesterday. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The car isn't about to let you down Di, this is a relatively minor problem. I've been driving mine for ages now with a misfire at idle - today I did the spark plugs and discovered that all the spark plugs on one bank were sitting in a nice warm water bath, which would go a long way to explain it. Runs nice and smoothly again now

James has given yours a major service, he would know whether it was going to go bang anytime soon. He's not panicking, so don't worry about it for now, see how it goes first

Plus, any mechanic worth his salt will replace a coil pack for you, hell, I could even do it if there's no-one left on Earth, so DON'T PANIC  ;D ;D ;D
