I'm replacing thermostat, and having problems to reach the bolt that join the input pipe and the dipstick. Any advice?

It's not called the 'B@stard Bolt' for nothing you know

aye its the bastard bolt for a reason. To help access take a 10mm spanner to the PAS pump bracket, take the bracket off, and push the PAS pipe down, this gives much better access to it.

First though release the stat itself, as that often is stuck on, release to two bolts to the stat, and wiggle the fook out of that and the transfer pip, try and get it as loose as possible.

Take off the main top rad pipe, that helps access too.

You might want to get a spare transfer pipe just in case, if you don't get one make sure you get the 2 o-rings for the transfer pipe, as these are not included in the stat kit

Thanks for advice and naming the bolt. How could I know the part number to order the transfer pipe o-rings?

I would DIY even if doing again, garage could charge a lot, as it can take a long time to do it. I spent an hour, or rather TB did  - Trying to get the transfer pipe off!

I found it very easy to be honest ....... 










I stood around and watched Daz and Pete swear and curse at the "B****** bolt" on my behalf

Did this job myself a few months ago without any great effort and I am disabled with restricted movement. Just take it easy and follow the guide.
When it came time to replace everthing I modified the so called B** bolt with a length of threaded bar and used a nut and lock washer on the top to retain the relevant parts. Got it from B&Q. Made it much, much easier too. I found the dipstick tube removal the worst part but now know that it can be very gently bent away just enough to allow the transfer tube to be removed.
New O rings are best and if you have to get a new thermostat housing because it broke getting the transfer tube out the later type is thicker so needs longer retaining bolts. Funny thing is it is the thermostat housing neck that breaks, not the transfer tube!

11094903 is the head screw!! I'll try to order in the dealer.
