hi guys
just a quick one.
getting a strong oil burning smell coming into the cabin when the vent fans are on. i've only had the car a week and am working through a few issues. i'm gonna do a full oil flush and change but suspect the smell is due to poor crank case breathing. does that sound right? if so is there a kit or is it a case of replacing a few hoses? also i've seen a crank case filter online that seems to do away with all the plumbing. anyone know if they work?

Sounds like you have a leak from one of the plastic cam covers..probably due to poor servicing in a previous life.
Have a good check for leaks where the plastic covers meet the heads..comman problem and very well documented in maintenance guide..only replace with genuine GM gaskets and when done give the breather system a thorough clean..that should be the end of the oil smell....then enjoy your new car .

Normal problem is caused by poor servicing of the oil.This then causes the breather system to get partially blocked and then the weakest point is the cam cover gaskets which then drip oil onto the hot exhaust manifolds and smell like "bacon frying" and you get the occassional puff of smoke from the bonnet edges.
Think most of us have been there at some point in our ownership...trick is to do it/or get it done properly using only genuine gaskets and sealant..have a read through the maintenance guide..it will then make the problem and its cure very clear.

It is one of the easier jobs but as I am sure you will have read in the guide, the most important things are that genuine GM gaskets are used, bolts torqued to 8Nm, BLACK sealant used, and breather system cleaned properly.
