« on: 06 March 2010, 15:29:41 »

How do these work and how can they be installed if my car has never had them before?

What is needed to install them please?

I'm sure to fit leccy mirrors, it's just a case of getting a pair of mirrors and the switch (breakers yard) cos the wiring should all be there.
To check, pop the drivers door card off and see if there are any unused connectors hanging around - they may be taped-up and not immediately obvious so have a good look.

Yep, but if it was as useless as half of Vauxhalls rear demisters...  You know what I'm saying!

I've been out this morning in our Focus with heated front screen. Absolutely fantastic ........ Had them in Mondeos as well, are standard on most reasonable spec Fords

Hi guys
The main point of my question is...can heated windscreens and heated exterior mirrors be installed in am old vauxhall omega?

I guess some or all of you will say it's not worth it considering it's age...but this last few weeks of winter a heated windscreen would have been very welcome.

for a living I drive £50,000 plus cars...top of the range limosines. There's a button for EVERYTHING, except making tea!!

Being able to get into one with a heated windscreen and exterior mirrors in the dead of winter is tops!!

Someone said thank God they aren't fitted in Vauxhalls. Why? Do you like de -icing?  :D

Not that I like deicing.....but I need to do the side windows as well not just the front.  Takes about a minute to scrape light ice off, or about 2 if I use some luke warm water to help.

I despise the constant 'starburst' effect of everything viewed through a heated screen, which is absolutley horrendous to my eyes once switched one.

I get a headache after driving with one for about 10 minutes.

I hate them when turned off,
I despise them even more turned on.

On a similar note...I could never stand using trinitron style computer monitors, I found the damping wires very offputting.

Hi sjc
I have electric mirrors.
I was just curious to heated electric mirrors. Do they really work, are they worth the hassle?

Are there models with electric mirror adjustment but no heaters in them???

The mirror heaters come on with the rear demist, they don't have a separate switch of any sort.

Oh, and yes, they work a treat!  They're usually clear long before the back window even when very frosty.

There is absolutely no reason why a heated windscreen cannot be retro fitted to a car that never came with one as they work in the same way as a rear screen demister and, i can get one for my Chevette ffs. However, someone has to make one for it in the first place and i can't find anyone that does. Also, i'm not sure if Ford still hold the patent on the way they make them so i don't know how it would work.
