Just bought my 3rd Omega
« on: 11 March 2010, 23:40:00 »

I can't help it I like them. First one failed MOT on emissions at 130K so scrapped after 6 lovely trouble free years. 2nd running like a dream but written off by insurance after crash on ice/snow. 3rd one I have had 3 days and I thought I had chosen another gem but there is only one problem , the alarm goes off when ever I open the care door but then it stops when I start the ignition. The "remote door opening" fob does not work. Otherwise a fabo car. Any ideas or does anyone know a non rip off car key place in Birmingham ???? Thanks. Happy driving. Patrick

you'll have to explain how that sequence works.

I can't seem to get the hang of getting rid of one first !

I was down to just one Omega, but suddenly, I've got six again ::)

I can look after that one with the iffy gearbox and the 2 extra cylinders, if you like...  :P

Welcome Patrick...yes thats exactly how its meant to work on later Omegas (and in fact most Vauxhalls)...if you dont use the fob to open the doors via the central locking but use the key instead the alarm will go off until the ignition is switched on...its not a fault.

The solution is to get the fob working...chances are one of 2 things are wrong...1) the battery needs changing in the fob, easy nd cheap enough to do...2) the battery holder has become dislodged and needs soldering back on (or alternatively a bit of wedged card will hold it in place sometimes)

Does the light on the fob come on when you press the remote buttons?? If it does then another possibility is the fob just needs resynching...put the key in the ignition in position 2 and press the remote buttons...the central locking will lock and unlock and then it should work again :y

Sounds like we are taking the same Omega route. My second will be near the end of its useful life (to me anyway) at the end of this year, I may just have to go for a newer one if there are any left with reasonable mileage by that point in time .

As some already said, probably just a flat battery in the remote. On my previous car I had to wedge some cardboard under the circuit board to get a good contact with the battery.
