Parts and labour costing

Not 100% sure this is the right section for this, please move as necessary.

I'm in a little dispute with a garage, who shall remain nameless at this point.  They aren't a backstreet operation, and they do know their way around Vauxhalls.

I could do with some info from the experts on here to help my case, if you'd be so kind. Car is a 2.0 Saloon, 95/96-ish 165K-ish. Wishbones have been changed about 2.5 years ago and copper slip used on reassembly, so nothing to do with the wishbone should have been a ballache.

1. Labour time, 'book' and 'real', ideally, for;
(a) Replacing one fractured rear spring
(b) Replacing a track rod end
(c) Replacing a wishbone balljoint (presumably the whole wishbone has to come off to do this, as the 'bones on the car had rivetted-on items?)
(d) Replacing a whole wishbone.

2. Cost of one genuine wishbone balljoint.

Your kind assistance in filling in the blanks would be much appreciated.
 :)
Pete

P.S. I am well aware that all of these items should really be replaced in pairs.

I would say 3-4 hours Labour total, assuming the TR end wasn't seized :-/

my take:

a) Replacing one fractured rear spring

40-50mins......and an extra 5 mins to do 2 (this is based on using jacks so if it was somebody less experienced who has a ramp they could do it easy)

(b) Replacing a track rod end

About 20mins, 30 if its seized....plus tracking

(c) Replacing a wishbone balljoint (presumably the whole wishbone has to come off to do this, as the 'bones on the car had rivetted-on items?)

Nope, you can drill/grind off the rivets and bolt a new one on so say....30-40 mins

(d) Replacing a whole wishbone.

40-50 mins

Thanks guys, very helpful.  :)

The situation is a bit messy, so I'll spare you the details, but your info confirms what I thought, times quoted by garage for spring and track-rod end both rather excessive (1.5 and 1 hour respectively).

Good ammo for my negotiations.  :y
