Still doing the clutch on mine, got the pipe separated, got the gear box clear, got the old clutch off, checked the fly wheel, checked the pressure plat, compared the friction plates.....


The f*****g new friction plate is f******g smaller than the old f*****g f****d plate!!!!  the make matters worse, the friction plate drive centre (the bit that goes round the spiggot), has 2 different outer diameters than the old plate!!!

I can't even compare the old part numbers as they are different manufacturers, the new is Sachs part/Luk Stamped the old one just say's made in the UK!!!

Re-pack the new one and take it back along with the old one. Motor factors should be able to identify the correct one. Then probably tell you it's a 7 day delivery

The new one was bought from Ebay, I have spoken to them and a refund offered, the problem I have is that I live miles from anywhere, even the bus... lol...

The friction plate dimensions should be:

228mm upto MY 1997
240mm from MY 1998

Inner lining diameter - 155mm

Lining thickness - 8.4mm

Mine being a 1998 'S' plate then would be on the transition from small to large plate, 12 mm difference does sound to be the about how much smaller mine is compared to the old one......

the larger one is the desired one!!!! fitted mine about 3 years ago, it was an actual vxhall upgrade, as long as it fits inside the dmf and is not tight on the outer edges it will be ok, when you look at your dmf you will see a line where the old one used to sit, outside of this is usually filled with clutch dust and crap, clean it out and place the new larger one in there it should fit with around 2 to 4 mm of clearance around the outside,

I am now left with a choice...

A delphi clutch, which I have no idea of the quality, £125 from Halfrauds (on Trade Card)..

or

help...

There is a moral me thinks to this story...  minor bits/cosmetics bit for car, ebay is fine, serious/major components don't touch ebay... me thinks me learn this the HARD way...

delph is a part of vaux mate!! main facotry is just across the road from the luton plant!!! used delph parts a lot when i was in the uk never had a single problem with them!!
