Alarm/Power Sounder
« on: 19 March 2010, 22:47:40 »

Hi, my 2003 Omega CDX Est has suddenly started making an alarm noise that is not the normal loud beep beep alarm. Its a more quieter woo woo kind of noise. Also no lights flash.

I read it may be the power sounder and that the batteries may be low. Please can someone point me the direction to buy new ones and also how to fit them?

Thanks...my neighbours will appreciate it! >:(

There are a couple of different types of batteries in the powersounder dependant on model I understand. Check out this link for one type.

If you reach thru the back door and press the locking button on the drivers door the car will be locked but the alarm NOT set, may keep yo :yu out of your neighbours bad books till you find a more permanent solution.

Tom
Have a look at this link, another member has already done a how to. I used it to my own powersounder. It really is a straight forward job. Like many other members I just left the sounder disconnected. The car alarm works as usual and it appears only the power sounder protection for battery disconnection siren is affected.

Hi Tom & Welcome. Just to add my 2pence worth, if you remove the powersounder you are effectively 'modifying' the car from manufacturers specifications, and as such you should notify your Insurance Company? I don't think many people actually do, but bear in mind, if you have a bump that requires an inspection & the loss adjuster is a jobsworth, you could end up with no payout! :y

Perfect. Did exactly as Vic's link suggested. Did the job. I'm happy, neighbours happy and I can enjoy a night sleeping.....instead of staying up as I did friday night in a layby in the middle of nowhere with the engine running....terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired. Incidently, I spoke to a few Vauxhall dealerships. vauxhall in Uckfield quoted me a reasonable £60 inc VAT for new unit and £30 to fit it. Piece of mind...suppose it could have been worse!

Thanks for all your your suggestions!
