Wet door cards
« on: 26 March 2010, 22:25:22 »

Having found that the drivers side door card was very damp at the bottom I took it off to try and find out how water was getting onto it . Somehow water is tracking  across from the outer side and on to the polythene , running down and out through the bottom mastic seal .  It is also dripping on to the unit at bottom right which i think is the airbag sensor ? Am I right in thinking that water should not get onto the inner side of the door and polythene?  I found water  did get in at the door handle and dripped onto the impact bar  and then splashed across , so I made a deflector , but then found water still on the inside. I just wondered if this is a known issue and what the trick is keep the water going straight down to the drainage holes.

What state are your window rubbers (which go around the inside of the door against the window) and the window trim (on the outside of the door, that fits against the bottom of the window) in?  Perished at all?

All seals look fine, but presumably water is meant to and does get past the window seals and it is meant to drain out the drainage without tracking towards the inner skin

To an extent - yes, but if water is gushing past the seals...

Are the drain-holes clear at the bottom of the doors?  Not blocked with general crud, or the anti-corrosion wax are they?

No Blockages , as clean as a whistle in there in fact. It isnt a lot of water getting across to the inside surface , just enough to continually feed the card with water .

Have you had the door card off? If not, then do and check the membrane behind the card for rips/tears.
