Engine management light/codes.
« on: 30 March 2010, 19:34:08 »

Hi everyone. I am a new member today i hope someone can help me, i have a little problem with my car. Iv had it for a few years now with no real problems. Had to change the dis pack once but it has been perfect since. Just recently the engine management light keeps coming on and off and it makes a difference to the cars performance when it is on. I had a look on here and found out how to get the codes. I get 12, which i understand is the start of the sequence, then 16=knock signal circuit 1 and 19=incorrect rpm signal. Does anyone know what i need to do to fix this problem?? Any help would be gratefully received. Many thanks. :y

19 is the classic .. crank sensor on the V6, there is an excellent guide here :

Knock sensor may just be caused by the crank sensor problem .. those can throw up oddities until fixed, or the cable may have been trapped when the cam belt was last changed, on the left side of the engine at the front/top. It is not unheard off for this to trap/damage the knock sensor cabling.

but the 19 is a definite .. needs changing .. :)

Oh .. and BTW .. "Hello" and Welcome  :)

As ENtwood says, the crank sensor needs replacing ASAP, it may fail completely, which will mean a nice trip on a low loader - been there, done that ;D

The 16 is a kanock sensor - check the state of the wiring to the knock sensors for damage (catching on aux belt?)
