Don't want to bother Daz on his hols but.......
« on: 01 April 2010, 08:21:01 »

Anyone tell me what the tickover revs should be on my petrol 2.5 auto Elite at normal temperature? Its running a bit lumpy at 500rpm. :-/
Apart from that small thing it runs as sweet as a nut now after Daz (the MAN :y) had done the heads etc. No more leaks of coolant or oil either, a clean driveway is a bonus.

They certainly do,chris.Mine when warm ticks over nice and smooth at 650 with a/c on..if you switch it off revs drop to about 500 and seems to be quite uneven as if too low,so for that very reason I very rarely switch a/c off.

Ok, But my aircon is at the moment waiting for a compressor because the 'omega aircon specialist' pratt that diagnosed the leak as being the condenser, which I then had him change and recharge was useless because within days it had gone off again. This time I took it elsewhere and had it looked at only to be told that he had not fitted new seals which came with the condenser but that it was also the compressor front seal that was leaking. The dye the specialist (haha) had put into the system initially was bright yellow around the compressor but it was not evident anywhere near to the condenser! No, he had not washed it off after finishing the condenser change either! F'in robbin useless 'specialist' B*****D! >:(
So now I ask, as it will not be a job that will be done quickly due to financial constraints to get it fitted for me and being disabled I cannot do it myself (I already have a replacement compressor) would it be ok to raise the tickover temporarily until I get it fitted?
If I carry on running the aircon until then what damage will it do seeing as the compressor is already kaput? Should I just put one of those aerosol thingys from haflords in every once in a while to keep it lubricated until I get it done? Should I change the aux belt for a shorter non-aircon one if that is possible?
One piggin thing after another but at least I now know who I can trust.
Forgot to say... I usually run with the aircon on all of the time, it never gets switched off.

Yo're not running the A/C if there's no gas in the system, the low pressure cut out has triggered. The pulley on the compressor might be turning via the'fan belt' but the compressor itself isn't turning because the clutch iside isn't engaged because there's no gas in there  :y

Thanx andyB but can I temporarily raise the tickover little to stop the lumpiness until I get the compressor changed?

I know the EGR can be adjusted to increase idle, not sure if it can do the idle control valve itself  :-/

Yeah, remember taking it down to point of stalling, then up to about 1.5k rpm

Horlicks, young man, horlicks. ;D

Tech2 can increase desired idle rpm (which it obviously does electronically via ICV).  However, the aircon off desired idle of approx 450rpm should be pretty smooth. If it isn't thats the fault you need to look for.

I remember 'idle' being adjusted on my 2.2 via the EGR  :-/

I didn't think the EGR could alter the tick over.
