Airbag/Dashboard Lights
« on: 02 April 2010, 16:32:39 »

Just checked for codes with my "My Naff Code Reader" and it seems the airbag has a present code 44 but the airbag light bulb has blown...also the seatbelt warning light seems to have blown...and there is another warning light that I dont recognise (looks like an exhaust silencer box with wavy lines rising up above it)

a) what part of the airbag system does code 44 relate to and how can I fix it??

b) what does the exhaust looking warning light do as I havent had a late mini facelift elite before (car is an early 2000 registered mini facelift 3.0 elite)

You're looking at empty spaces in the dash that would be filled abroad. We don't use the seat belt warning lamp here. IIRC the wavey lines on the exhaust are cat over temp ... again for use abroad.  :y

I had an airbag light which I couldnt reset with "My Naff Code Reader". Had to be done by a tech 2 with no other intervention. tech 2 said that one of the side airbag resistances was too high but then allowed it to be reset. Most odd.

It says the fault is present still and the fact that the bulb has blown/been removed suggests its been on a while...but need to know what the fault is likely to be so I can check it and hopefully correct it and try resetting the airbag...

What was the text with the error.  I had a feeling 44 was low voltage from telltale, but thats from memory.

Right, it that was the text, it means the bulb is missing ;) (or ign has previously been on with dash out)

Easy fix, replace bulb, reset DTC :y

Not "out" as in not-illuminated ... but out as in "not present"

If the bulb does not exist or is blown  - open circuit to the test circuit - it cannot come on .. so a fault is recorded to let you know that.

I meant out as in blown etc but certainly worth clarifying :y Dunno why they dont change the manual though and just put...code 44 Bulb Blown/Missing to make life a lot easier lol :y

The error text is telling you exactly what it sees - Telltale voltage low in this case.  Its up to the operator to diagnose what the tools say ;)

It could also be a  broken wire from the airbag ECU, which is why they say voltage low/high etc as oposed to bulb blown

Or that the dash isn't seated fully. Or a whole number of other things :y

Hence why using diags equipment is often skilled ;)
