Coolant loss 2.5v6
« on: 06 April 2010, 20:17:41 »

weird this one , wonder if anybody can shed any light on this problem, a few weeks ago i noticed steam comming from under the hood, on checking and checking on here i gussed it would be the heater bypass valve, so went and bought one and fitted it , i was fully expecting this to be the cause, but it isnt  :-[ , the leak is from that area but i dont think its the hoses, it only leaks once it gets up to normal temp, i belive and hope i am wrong but it seems to comming from the back part of the engine, just in front of the  heater bypass valve , i cant see anything beacuse its up againt the bulkhead, but if i accelerarte once the engine is hot , you can see water squirting from the back of here, i have a realy bad feeling about this, as i would thing the only way you could even get and look at where the problem is would be to remove the engine, and of course this is just not viable with the value and age of car
any help and advise would be apreciated

Sounds like it could be from the area of the oil cooler or the transfer pipe ???  Need to get down into the "V" and look for witness marks to be sure .. :(

That is easily do-able without removing the emgine and is where I would start ..

It could be your expansion cap venting excess pressure! Does the steam appear at the top right side of the bonnet just in front of the drivers door mirror? Any smell of exhaust gas or petrol in the coolant bottle? :-/

Thanks guys
the steam does come from around there , and there is a smell of coolant but i wouldnt say petrol , the pipes dont seem to hard (ie headgasket) but i do admit it does look like some kind of over preasure thing, i am quite sure but its so hard to be sure that its coming from behind a metal flat plate , i have no idea what this unit is , it loks like its fastend to the head as you can see gasket, but can not feel any bolts to take it off, i am so confused on this one
thanks again
