Pistons, valves, turbo's, pulleys, flywheels, etc - how much is that gonna cost (parts & labour) versus dropping a V8 in to it?

As KW says, going to those lengths, probably better to start from a better baseline.

3.0l cams, and a chip can add noticible improvements for around £200 though.

before planning to increase engine performance ,

you need to plan increase in cooling efficiency of that engine..both for coolant and oil.. :-/

For the money it'd cost to make it faster, you could've bought a fast car in the first place without messing.

3.0 Cams, chip and filter would be a good place to start, plus an exhaust system.

30 to 40 hp..depending on the engine condition..

0.3- 0.4 secs better at 0-60..

I would start dismantling first ;D

Thats probably ambitious.  20bhp tops I would suggest...

if you realy want to tune a 2.5
i'd go for 3 ltr cams and do abit of porting and gas flowing  :y
a 2.6 exhaust manifold is alot better and maybe a decent chip  :y

next on the list would be a good nox kit  :y
that way, you have the extra grunt at the touch of a button but don't have to worry about the cooling problems you will get if you strap a supercharger or twin turbo kit on  :y

i think that you will need to do some serious work to the cooling system once you get over 250 bhp but with nox, providing you don't run it continious, then you should be ok  :y

............to answer your original question, Regal and Courtneys are places where you can buy what you're looking for.
look in the ads in any months Total Vaux will also have ads for people that sell some of those components.

Having a stainless exhaust also helps (performance Cats etc) also helps.

I did:
3 litre cams, enlarged throttle body, (not popular with some peeps), enlarged inlet manifold divider, remap, modded box with re-usable air filter, and  Longlife exhaust with 200 psi cats.
Got 215 bhp with ABS in august 2008.

Why? (and why not put in a V8 or buy another car?)
Because I wanted to and have loved every minute of it. :y :y
It was added to by doing some mods to the body work too last year :y :y
I'm very happy with what's been done and don't want another car......................

Good luck whatever you do!

I looked at y26se exhaust manifolds at epc:
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/709/imagehandlerashxp.jpg

still the same crapy design - practically nonexistent primary tubes, not even a slightest hint to some degree of "performance" in their design... :(

what about their inner diameter?

Just to add to your list, if you are intending on increasing performance they also remember about the Brakes ;-)

And have you also considered the increase in your insurance premium for a Modified car?

well what the deal is me and my mate have decided we wanted to do a car up just for the crack and with regards insurance well were track daying it anyway wont be on the roads so far ive ported and polished it a general clean looking at de cat custom exhaust from power flow, breaks maybe 4 pot callipers slight lower (not chav lower), smooth the bumper get rid of what's not needed, front splitter, induction kit remove the weighty air con, heated seats, back seats ect lighter alloys, obviously all the work will be done ourself. but it has answered our question many thanks all and up date head gasket has gone (thats what you get for £200)
