Autobox Oil Change (Sealed for life!?)
« on: 08 April 2010, 16:31:46 »

3.0 MV6 - X Reg. 139,000 miles.

I was thinking of a Gear Box oil change as very occasionally it bangs down a gear whilst in town/slow traffic.

Mine is sealed for life, but I do believe they can still be done, anyone offering this service around the SK14 2RS area and how much?  :P

Vauxhall considered all autos to be sealed for life, ie they didn't need any kind of service in tye life of the car. But an ATF & filter change
does no harm especially if you tow  :y

This tells you how to check the fluid

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152783586

If you want to CHANGE the fluid then you can either suck as much out of that hole as you can, using various methods  (pela pumps, suction guns etc etc) or you can drop both the sumps and pour the old stuff away.

Even this will only get rid of about 1/2 the fluid as the rest is "internal"

It is an extremely "messy" job but not technically difficult. Access being the hardest bit unless you have a lift.

Easily DIY-able if you can get underneath... how high you have to lift the car depends purely on your waistline !!

New Dexron 3 and filter clean at 70k or 7 years as a minimum.
No such thing as a 'sealed for life auto gearbox' with GM or Ford.
