ABS ECU
« on: 07 April 2010, 17:02:10 »

Just checking before I replace it... (friends car)

ABS & TC light on permanently (use to be intermittent)

Speedo inoperative (use to work intermittently)

Steering goes heavy intermittently, (some what weighted but not too hard to turn)

I have got my self the odd screws to remove the ABS ECU and have sourced a second hand ABS ECU from one of the same model (3.0 AUTO ELITE - S Reg).

Looking at it and to make more room for me to do the job I would remove the battery and a water hose. Any tips for this and am I right in assuming it is the ABS ECU.

it may not be the ecu,it could just be a wheel speed sensor fault.you need to have it code read

so how do you read the code to see if it is the speed sensor? and would this cause the abs and tc lights to come on etc.

you will need a suitable code reader and yes any fault with the abs will light tc and abs lights as the traction control uses the abs to brake the spinning wheel

I would say it sounds like the ABS ECU as well.

Abs ecu breaked mate - classic symptoms, especially a 1998.

Did the Estate by just removing top hose - a bit tight though.

Tried to get this off today, 3 hours later and only 3 out of the 6 screws removed I gave up, told my mate to take it to a garage :@
