Is it a facelift model?
« on: 08 April 2010, 12:21:21 »

Hi

Hope somebody can help me clarify this - I swapped my Mondeo for a 1999 Omega Elite, 2 days ago. I've been looking through the posts and I am confused by the facelift thingy.

I read a post yesterday, which said that if your electric window switches are on the drivers door then it is a facelift model - but also that face lift models started at V reg.

Mine is a T reg (Aug 1999) and has the switches on the drivers door.

Also, I bought a Haynes manual ('94 - '99) but the layout of the dash is different from mine. The dash only has a 1 din aperture for the radio in the manual, whereas in my Elite it has what must be a 2 din fitting, at least. It has a Siemens NCDR 2011 fitted.

The handbook (user guide and Audio guide) that came with the car bear no relation to the car.

So, I'm at a loss - I need to find out because I need to locate a key fob remote that will switch the alarm off instead of having to use the key.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated, cheers

Ollie

Have you got a photo? It sounds like a facelift, but must be a very early one. Is it the same shape as the one in my avatar, which is a pre-facelift.

I believe that the mini facelift uses the new dash layout and the full facelift has a different bonnet and lights(grille is part of bonnet).some one correct me if this is wrong

OK from what you've said already it's a facelift. Double DIN head unit, window switches in the drivers door, blue background on the clocks. Is the grill attached to the bonnet or the slam panel?

I have a mini-facelift, but the elec window switches are still in the centre console so would take yours to be a very early facelift model.

Wow

Cheers for the response guys - the grille is attached to the bonnet and on the dash, the sat nav is full colour - I've seen some that are orange display on black screen. Sorry for being so ignorant but I've only had the car 2 days - in fact it's my first ever vauxhall - cracking car though.

I do have pictures but not sure how to get them on here yet.

Cheers

Facelift started "about" 1999, mine is a 99 on a T reg and mine is a "mini facelift" with leccy window switches by the gear shifter, and a double din radio aperture. Yours appears to be "facelift", and therefore should have switches on the drivers door. Haynes manuals are known as the "book of lies" cos they are not entirely correct with a lot of things printed in them....Beware!!

Prefacelift & minifacelift are in essence the same car, but with a few tweaks here & there. They both have the same basic dash layout & are both different from the facelift cars.  :y

Thanks everybody for such a quick response - very helpful.

I have had probs with Haynes manuals before - for a ford mondeo which was on a 'facelift cusp' - wasn't very accurate at all.

Am I right in thinking that this will affect the type of remote key fob that I need. The one that came with it doesn't work so, when I open the door, I have turn on the ignition to shut the alarm off.

What kind would I need (this one has 3 buttons) and where might I get one from.

Cheers

I have only ever seen one facelift on a 'T' plate before, it was an estate. 99% of Facelift's can only be found on 'V' plate and later. If you're not sure how to upload pictures, you can send them to me and I'll upload them for you. Just send me a PM if you want me to do it, and I'll give you my email address  :y
