Will check in a min and get back to you!!!

Could this be linked to a small whine/whistle which I reported the other day???

Is it all the time, or worse if revving slightly? If all time, check vac pipes around back (and to rear multiram), and check main vav hose hasn't worn through on a/c pipe

the answer is no!!!

It does do it all the time... I though it was a belt whiring round first but after listening it's definately to the rear of the plenum.....

Would it pay to remove the plenum and check around or is it more than it's worth

Not at this stage, just follow all vac pipes, ensure connected. Ensure that the t pieces where the small vacs meet main vac arent broken.

If all the vac pipes "look" ok .. spray around lightly with carb cleaner while the engine is at idle .... if the engine note suddenly changes you've just found the leak .. the carb cleaner has ben sucked in and used as fuel !!!

Fix problem, wipe down with paper towel .. result ... mended leak and a nice clean engine .. :)

All pipes and hoses etc checked and cannot see anything untoward... No splits/cracks etc..

Could it be the cambelt whiring round and echoing through?? it does need changing but I cannot get around to it this week as lack of funds....

I do know the cambelt is at the front!!

that prob is a stupid question but was just a thought!!!

undo the main vac pipe to plenum, 19mill spanner i think, and pull the vac round over plenum so you can see the pass side back edge, the classic fault is for the pipe to Rub through in that area where it chafes on the ac pipe next to it.

If no joy there have a look behind the scuttle panel above pollen filter, you'll see a vac tank above polen filter, the two vac pipes too and from are another favourite, along with the tee pieces mentioned previous.

Probably find the hiss gradually fades out a couple of seconds after engine off, classic vac pipe leak symptom imo.

It does fade out as engine is stopped....

I will strip it down and have another look tomorrow as I'm now at work.... Will keep you updated and hopefully this is the fault and an easy fix.... Where will I get new pipes will I hav to goto vauxhall or will a car shop/parts company have them?

initially pipe leaks can be wrapped in insulation tape, just be sure it cant be sucked into the engine.

I'm sure the breakers on here must have plenty of vac tanks and small bore pipes, i'm not suee how to replace the large vac pipe plunum to servo though.

Basically all that system needs checking so follow those small black pipes round the engine bay, the nature of parts waring through means you can be absalutely certain any holes will be hidden from view, unless a connector has snapped off one of the two vac tanks.

Engine running should help locate the hiss, mind fingers obviously.
