Something seems to be draining the battery, and although you state it is not the alternator, it really does sound as though it could be.  Power is draining away whilst you are driving, and if the alternator is functioning correctly that should not happen.  The only time draining power happened to me, with the engine cutting out, was when my alternator packed up.

Does the radio die before the car comes to a halt?

Not necessarily true. Have you checked the alt. output http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1225724099
With the Omega strange things are known to manifest themselves if you have a dodgy alternator  :-?

.................in addition always allow for the possibility that the alternator warning bulb has blown / been removed and may not show! ::) ::) ;)

Yep a classic sign of losing electrical power from alternator, with the battery drained right out, so no means of running radio.  It just dies, as will all electrical equipment! ;)

PS In the 'old days; we always checked the drive belt tightness on the generator / alternator to ensure there was no 'slippage' thus reducing the power going into the engine / battery.  Worth a check? ;)

Check out the maintenance guides.

Remove and clean all the breathers, throttle body and idle valve....no need to replace anything other than a few gaskets.

What do you mean when you said you adjusted the revs? Have you been playing with the throttle stop screw??

Throttle stop screw should not be adjusted....ever....even by someone who used to work for Vauxhall.

The throttle has to close completely so that all the idle air passes through the idle control valve.
To re-set this you have to remove the throttle body, clean the throttle disk thoroughly then set the screw so that the throttle shuts completely without sticking in the bore.

Re assemble then fix the original problem which was probably a gummed-up idle control valve due to blocked breather system.
